Our mental health at work is just as important as our job responsibilities. A company with happy employees will see a great improvement in productivity & morale. To become happier at work you have to be intentional with it because just like eating healthy and exercising this is something you have to work on.
Below we have a few tips to help you walk the line between professional productivity and personal happiness.
Start the day on a good note
Research shows how you feel in the morning affects the rest of your workday. If you’re in a good mood in the morning, chances are you will be in a much better mood at work. Make it a point do something you enjoy in the morning. If you’re a coffee or tea drinker take some time to actually enjoy it instead of just gulping it down.
Fun Rewards
If the things on your to-do list fill you with dread, try giving yourself some incentives to complete the task. You could go with something such as, “If I finish this report or presentation, I can reward myself with my favourite treat or happy hour cocktails with my friends after work.”
Create a happy playlist
Music can greatly affect your mood. Create a playlist with some of your favourite songs that make you feel good, happy and inspired.
Make progress and acknowledge it
One of the biggest ways you can motivate yourself at work is by feeling like you’re moving forward and making progress. Before you start work create a to-do list and make a note of 3 small, quick things you want to accomplish today and start doing them before you get to the big tasks. Cross them off your list and then at the of your workday look back at your list and acknowledge that you have made some progress.
Help a co-worker out
Studies have shown that altruism makes us happier at work. You don’t have to do anything huge or heroic. Asking if they need help on a project, making them a cup of tea/coffee when you’re making yours, offer to do simple tasks for them. Try to make this a regular thing instead of doing it once in a while.
Switch up your routine
If you’re feeling like you’re stuck in a rut it could be time to switch up your routine. Bike to work instead if you usually use public transport or drive. Ask a friend or colleague to lunch instead of eating lunch at your desk.
Make the most of the weekend
Try not to take work home with you on a Friday. You’re robbing yourself out of a weekend by taking work home to work on weekends because you’ll start feeling like you haven’t left the office. Take the weekend to spend time with family, friends and doing things you enjoy.
Get a new job
