How to get a job as a DevOps Engineer
Many organisations are moving to DevOps. Whether you are a developer who wants to move into this field or you work in the technology industry and are looking to make a career change. We have put to together some tips to help you move into the world of a DevOps career.
What is DevOps?
DevOps is a set of practices and tools that increase an organisation’s ability to deliver services and applications at a fast pace. It is the offspring of software development. The term sprung from applying Agile and Lean approaches to operation.
Start cross-training
You should be building the skills you have for the job you want. If you’re a developer look at getting involved with open source projects. If you’re a developer get involved with anything to do with operations that your team is working on.
Take the time to learn and gain experience in Chef of Puppet scripting and programming languages such as Python, Perl, or Ruby. It would also be beneficial to familiarise yourself with Linux and Shell environments.

Develop your personal brand
Get involved in the DevOps community. Attend networking events and conferences. Get involved in open-source projects. These are some of the ways you can make yourself and career more marketable.
Demonstrate curiosity and empathy
Two important soft skills that a DevOps engineer should have is curiosity and empathy. You can show curiosity by building up your technical skillset and asking the right questions when solving problems.
